Distillery Information

In the fall of 2015, WhistlePig officially opened its distillery on a 500-acre, renovated dairy farm in Shoreham, Vermont.
Starting in 2007, Bhakta purchased land in Shoreham, Vermont, on which he built a new distillery and aging facility for the brand. The brand was officially launched in 2010. WhistlePig hired master distiller Dave Pickerell to source its first whiskey.
In the United States, rye whiskey is, by law, made from a mash of at least 51 percent rye. (The other ingredients in the mash are usually corn and malted barley.) It is distilled to no more than 160 U.S. proof (80% abv) and aged in charred, new oak barrels.
003 is the third release, comprised of three different whiskies, one distilled at the Whistle Pig farm in Vermont, and two sourced from Alberta, Canada. This is the first year that the majority of the blend comes from Whistle Pig's estate distilled whiskey.WhistlePig is expensive because it's aged for a long time in some of Vermont's best oak barrels. Some of the limited edition releases are also expensive because of the ultra-premium rye that the brand uses.WhistlePig lives by a simple ethos: protect what makes Rye Whiskey great; toss out the rest; and then innovate to make it better. Their remote 500-acre hard-working farm in bucolic Shoreham, Vermont, is the perfect place to perfect their experiments in blending and finishing.
