In the United States, rye whiskey is, by law, made from a mash of at least 51 percent rye. (The other ingredients in the mash are usually corn and malted barley.) It is distilled to no more than 160 U.S. proof (80% abv) and aged in charred, new oak barrels.
This whiskey contains a 100% Rye mash bill. Instead of using the typical barley in the mash bill to convert starch to sugar, we push the boundaries & use a Rye malt. This allows us a true 100% Rye mash, focusing on all the spice notes yet adding sweet subtle, fruity malt notes.
Founded in 2012, Nevada H&C Distilling Co. in Las Vegas has been releasing its barrel strength bourbon, Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered, since 2017.The company's logo features two of these Smoke Wagons over the state of Nevada with their motto derived from Seneca, “Bibamus Moriendum Est” (Drink, for we must die). Today the company continues to contract-distill bourbon at MGP which is then aged in MGP's warehouses and imported as needed.Is Smoke Wagon bourbon hard to find?
