Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky, United States; at Domaine Sazerac de Segonzac in Cognac, France; and at Paul John Distillery in Goa, India. We have additional impressive locations in New Orleans, Montréal, London, Cork and Sydney, to name a few.In the United States, rye whiskey is, by law, made from a mash of at least 51 percent rye. (The other ingredients in the mash are usually corn and malted barley.) It is distilled to no more than 160 U.S. proof (80% abv) and aged in charred, new oak barrels.
While Buffalo Trace does not disclose mashbills, the mashbill used to make Sazerac Rye Whiskey is their low rye mashbill, which is believed to be comprised of approximately 51% rye, 39% corn, and 10% malted barley. Other Buffalo Trace distilled brands using the same mashbill include Sazerac 18 Year, Thomas H.In 1992, Sazerac acquired the George T. Stagg Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, at which time the company's primary focus became the production of bourbon whiskey, a product that is primarily distilled, aged, and bottled in Kentucky, later changing its name to the Buffalo Trace Distillery in 1999.
