Distillery Information

Leopold Brothers is a family owned and operated distillery located in Denver, Colorado established by brothers Todd Leopold and Scott Leopold.
For those of you new to the distilling world, a 3-chamber still is a semi-continuously fed still that has a reputation for producing very robust, aromatic finished spirits. Most notably rye whiskey and rum. Evidently, this type of still became popular during the mid to late 1800s.In the United States, rye whiskey is, by law, made from a mash of at least 51 percent rye. (The other ingredients in the mash are usually corn and malted barley.) It is distilled to no more than 160 U.S. proof (80% abv) and aged in charred, new oak barrels.
Whisky has been distilled in Scotland for hundreds of years. There is some evidence to show that the art of distilling could have been brought to the country by Christian missionary monks, but it has never been proved that Highland farmers did not themselves discover how to distil spirits from their surplus barley.
Scotland is the biggest producer of whisky in the world, and has been for at least 100 years. But while Scotland is synonymous with whisky, it isn't the only country to produce it. Others, such as the USA, Ireland and Japan, also have long, proud traditions of whisky-making.
Based out of Colorado, Leopold Bros. is a family-owned distillery run by Scott and Todd Leopold. Originally started in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1999, the distillery was moved to Colorado in the mid-2000s and the current distillery space they operate out of opened in 2014.
