Malibu is an original Caribbean coconut rum, that was born and lives in a place where the spirit of summer shines all year round. It starts with molasses from the most beautiful sugarcane crops, and it has distilled three times at the West Indies distillery in Barbados.
Malibu is made by the West Indies Rum Distillery Ltd in the Caribbean (Barbados). Now the world's most famous liqueur, it's a frequent sighting in bars and clubs all over the world.
Malibu rum has a full, rounded lightly toasted coconut aroma and a creamy coconut taste with vanilla custard notes. The body is delicate with a soft warming rum taste and a lasting silky finish.
History. The product was created in 1978 by Tom Jago of International Distillers & Vintners, and originally made from fruit spirits, flavored with rum and coconut flavoring in Curaçao. Originally, the product was used to simplify the making of piña coladas by bartenders.
Malibu Original Caribbean “Rum” is, in fact, not a rum — it's actually a coconut-flavored liqueur since there is added sugar in the drink and the alcohol level is just 21% ABV. Note that both liquors like rum and liqueurs have a wide range of ABV ratings.
