In 1996, one of the country's worst ever distillery fires began. At the Heaven Hill warehouses in Bardstown, Kentucky, a fire started in the afternoon on November 7 that eventually destroyed nearly 100,000 barrels of bourbon. A storm was brewing in the afternoon, with winds clocking in at 70 mph.USA Today named Bardstown as “The Most Beautiful Small Town in America” in 2012 because of its unique and charming nature. With 11 distillery experiences located within 16 miles of downtown, Bardstown is one of the best cities to visit if you're looking for a bourbon adventure.
