Tasting Notes

Appearance:
A deep amber hue, reminiscent of polished mahogany, catches the eye as the whiskey swirls in the glass. The high viscosity leaves long, slow legs that gracefully cascade down the sides.

Nose:
Upon the first approach, the aroma reveals a symphony of rich and complex notes. Delicate wafts of honeyed malt intertwine with the warm embrace of toffee and vanilla. Subtle hints of orchard fruits, such as ripe apples and pears, add a touch of sweetness, while the oakiness asserts itself with a gentle, lingering presence.

Palate:
The initial sip delivers a robust and full-bodied experience, showcasing the cask strength intensity. The palate is greeted by a delightful fusion of caramelized sugars and honey, offering a luxurious sweetness. Layers of complexity unfold as dried fruits, including figs and dates, emerge, complemented by a nuanced spiciness that dances on the tongue. The influence of the well-aged oak barrels contributes to a velvety texture, enveloping the palate in a warm embrace.

Finish:
The finish is a crescendo of flavors that lingers long after the last sip. Oak and spice take center stage, providing a satisfying warmth that evolves into a delightful dryness. A final echo of sweet malt and subtle fruitiness leaves a lasting impression, inviting contemplation and appreciation.

Distillery Information

Midleton Distillery is known for its outstanding single pot still Irish whiskey brands. The Redbreast range is world renowned and regarded as the epitome of the style.
Bottled at a cask strength of 117.8 proof without chill filtration, Blue Spot brings rich and robust flavor.
The whiskey is 7 years old, non-chill filtered and aged in ex-Bourbon barrels, ex-sherry butts, and ex-Portuguese Madiera casks. Blue Spot is 58.7% ABV (117.4 proof) and distilled at the Midleton Distillery in County Cork.
By heating the wash still to a certain temperature, the lighter alcohol evaporates and rises to the top in the neck of the still. The rest of the wash remains in the still. The alcohol vapour is then cooled and collected in spirit receivers. To obtain whiskey, the process must be repeated.
Scotch Whisky, after it has been distilled, contains not only ethyl alcohol and water but certain secondary constituents. The exact nature of these is not fully understood, but it is believed they include some of the essential oils from the malted barley and other cereals and substances that derive from the peat.
