Plymouth Original Strength is a unique, protected style of gin originating from the city of Plymouth, South West England. Since 1793 it has been distilled from a unique blend of 7 botanicals, soft Dartmoor water and pure grain alcohol at the historic Black Friars Distillery - the oldest working distillery in England.

Distillery Information

Black Friars Distillery, the working home of Plymouth Gin since 1793, is the oldest working gin distillery in England and is situated in the heart of the historic port city of Plymouth.
A true classic, multi-award-winning Plymouth has the authentic taste of history. The brand has been part of Pernod Ricard since 2008.
It is the only remaining gin distillery in Plymouth. The building, constructed in 1431, has been in operation as a gin distillery since 1793. It opens onto what is now Southside Street. The established distilling business of Fox & Williamson began the distilling of the Plymouth brand in 1793.
A Dutch physician who went by the name of Franciscus Sylvius is thought to be the 'inventor' of gin having started prescribing a juniper-based distilled spirit for medicinal purposes in 1550.The name gin is a shortened form of the older English word genever, related to the French word genièvre and the Dutch word jenever. All ultimately derive from juniperus, the Latin for juniper.
