Produced at the Campo Azul distillery, Rancho Alegre Blanco is an excellent value for a 100% agave tequila. Sweet aromas of dried fruit and nuts dominate.
The first distillation process takes place in steel distillation columns, during which water is removed and alcohol is concentrated from fermented agave juice. The second distillation takes place in stills to obtain tequila with a range of 55-65% alcohol, depending on the brand.
Tequila is typically distilled twice. The first distillation produces a cloudy liquid called the ordinario. The second distillation produces the clear silver tequila, which is then ready to be aged and bottledMost Tequilas come from the state of Jalisco, where the actual town of Tequila, Mexico resides. For starters, in order for a spirit to be called “Tequila” it MUST come from one of five authorized states in Mexico: Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacan, Nayarit, or Tamaulipas. The outer leaves of the agave plant are cut away to harvest the bulb, which is then baked. To juice as much sugar out, the bulb is shredded and crushed. The extracted agave juice is fermented with ethyl alcohol, turning it into a spirit. That spirit is then distilled, which purifies and concentrates it.
