Distillery Information

Chamucos which loosely translates as 'boogie man, is a 100% agave reposado tequila produced by Premium de Jalisco in Mazamitla in southern Jalisco.
Most Tequilas come from the state of Jalisco, where the actual town of Tequila, Mexico resides. For starters, in order for a spirit to be called “Tequila” it MUST come from one of five authorized states in Mexico: Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacan, Nayarit, or Tamaulipas. The first tequila distillery in the United States was opened in 1936 in Nogales, Arizona by Harry J. Karns, former Arizona state senator and Nogales Mayor. In a move to take ownership of the term "tequila", the Mexican government declared the term to be its intellectual property in 1974.
CasamigosActor George Clooney, entrepreneur Rande Gerber (husband to model Cindy Crawford), and entrepreneur Michael Meldman created three tequilas that are made from agave grown in Jalisco's Highlands. The first distillation process takes place in steel distillation columns, during which water is removed and alcohol is concentrated from fermented agave juice. The second distillation takes place in stills to obtain tequila with a range of 55-65% alcohol, depending on the brand.
In the local Nahuatl language, the word tequila means 'volcanic rock' or 'rock that cuts', a reference to the dormant volcano that shadows the town of Tequila. In the 17th century 'agave wines' produced in and around the town of Tequila started to gain notoriety for their quality.
