Distillery Information

In 2003, Mexico issued a proposal that would require all Mexican-made tequila be bottled in Mexico before being exported to other countries. The Mexican government said that bottling tequila in Mexico would guarantee its quality.
The first distillation process takes place in steel distillation columns, during which water is removed and alcohol is concentrated from fermented agave juice. The second distillation takes place in stills to obtain tequila with a range of 55-65% alcohol, depending on the brand.
A drink similar to tequila likely originated around 1000 B.C. among the Olmec people in what is now Southeastern Mexico. This is known as pulque and is made from agave, the same plant that is used to distill as the liquor we know today.
The chemical composition of this beverage is approximately 99% of a mixture: alcohol (ethanol) and water; however, the remaining 1% is what makes the difference. ingredients, such as glycerin, food coloring, synthetic agave, or oak extracts are added to enhance flavor or appearance. Black Sheep is additive free.
Tequila is a distilled spirit made from the Weber blue agave plant that grows in Mexico. The blue agave plant has huge spikes that come up from a central core that is called the pina. After the leaves are removed, the pina is the part of the plant that is used to make tequila.
