The Nine Banded Strait Bourbon begins its life in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, where it is distilled and aged before being “Brought to Life ” with the addition of water from Texas hill country, just outside of Austin, where it is blended and bottled.Nine Banded started in 2016 by co-founders Sean Foley, Chris Ogden, and Whitney Kroenke Silverstein. The primary requirement that defines bourbon as straight is if the distillate has spent a minimum of two years stored in new charred oak barrels. The only exception to this rule is corn whiskey, which is aged in uncharred or used oak barrels. During the aging process, Bourbon oxidizes and penetrates the wood.
Although historians remain divided on exactly when bourbon was invented and where the name even derives from, we do know that Evan Williams opened the first commercial whiskey distillery in Louisville in 1783 — even before Kentucky was an official state — and that the 1800s were a booming time for the offbeat brown ...Some sources trace bourbon's origins to Kentucky in 1789. Some of these sources credit Elijah Craig, a Baptist minister, with the invention of bourbon after he aged corn whiskey. That same year, Craig opened a distillery in Georgetown, Kentucky. For a whiskey to be considered Bourbon, its mash – the mixture of grains from which the product is distilled – must contain at least 51% corn. The rest of the mash is usually filled out with rye or wheat, and malted barley.
Jack Daniel's is a Tennessee whiskey and was named No. 7 by "Mr Jack" himself in 1887 – no one knows why. Some say Jack was honouring his seven girlfriends, others that it was the 7th recipe but one of the most plausible explanations to the Old No. 7 brand is the story of the missing seven barrels.
