Montelobos Tobalà is an unaged joven mezcal crafted with tobala agave, roasted underground, wild fermented in open pine wood vats and small-batch copper distilled for the perfect balance of green agave, sweetness and subtle smoke.

The distillery is owned by William Grant & Sons. The Girvan Distillery is one of the largest facilities in Scotland in which is making whisky. The distillery is named after the town of Girvan. The distillery is known as one of the most energy efficient distilleries in Scotland.
Montelobos is an artisanal mezcal made in Santiago Matatlán Oaxaca produced with 100% organically certified agave espadín. Our mezcal is meticulously crafted by world renowned agave expert Iván Saldaña.
Joven: One of the classes of mezcal as defined by the Norm. White mezcal, receiving no treatment after distillation. Also called blanco, although joven is the traditional and preferred term. Madurado en vidrio: “Matured in class.” One of the categories of mezcal as defined by the Norm.
Montelobos Espadín is balanced with notes of wood, smoke, green agave and cooked agave. Montelobos Tobalá, on the other hand, has a more prominent green agave profile, which then gives way to a milder smoke, wood and cooked agave flavors.
Mezcal distillation is a traditional and artisanal process. Most producers use clay or wood stills heated by direct fire, often with materials from the surrounding environment. These stills are much smaller than modern ones, making batches unique and limite.Mezcal Artesanal: agave cooked as ancestral or in an above-ground manmade chamber fueled by wood or fossil fuel; crushed as above or using a crushing machine; fermented as above; and distilled using wood or fossil fuel, in clay, wood, copper, stainless steel, with or without fiber for the first distillation.
