Kavalan Distillery has been pioneering the art of single malt whisky in Yilan County, Taiwan, since 2005. Kavalan sources the mineral-rich meltwaters of Snow Mountain and is aged in a unique combination of intense heat and humidity together with sea and mountain breezes.
Kavalan CEO YT Lee said he was proudest of the fact that Solist PX Sherry Cask claimed the coveted 2023 "Best of the Best Single Malt Whisky".Kavalan uses malted barley as its raw material and retains the aromas that we gain through the distilling process and from the new make spirit, which is matured for two years in our subtropical climate ensuring a rich flavour and complex texture.
The distillery is named after the old name of Yilan County. The distillery was completed in December 2005, produced its first spirit in March 2006, and released its first bottling in December 2008. After its first few runs Kavalan bought a new set of much larger German stills to expand production.The Breckenridge Distillery is the “World's Highest Distillery”. Founded in 2008, the Breckenridge Distillery is most widely known for its blended bourbon whiskey, a high-rye mash American-style whiskey.
And at the IWC, Kavalan was crowned the 2023 International Whisky Competition's (IWC) "Distillery of the Year." First, second and third place in the coveted Best World Whisky - Cask Strength category went to Kavalan Solist Port, Distillery Reserve Madeira Cask and Distillery Reserve Peated Malt.
