Stagg was a talented whiskey salesman, partner with the famous Colonel Edmund Haines Taylor, Jr, and owner of the historic O.F.C. (Old Fire Copper) Distillery, now the present day Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfurt.

Stagg was born in 1835 in Garrard County, near the town of Lancaster, Kentucky in the central part of the state. He is one of the founding fathers of what is now the "Buffalo Trace Distillery" in Frankfort, Kentucky and he impact of his life as an adult had an impressive and lasting impact on the bourbon industry.
