Distillery Information

The Bombay Sapphire Distillery at Laverstoke Mill in Hampshire opened to the public on 1st October 2014. It was completely renovated from a derelict mill into a state of the art premium gin distillery and visitor experience, encompassing the highest standards in design, functionality and sustainability.
Working with the project's architect Heatherwick Studio, we have adopted an innovative approach to employing structural glass to enable the materials to be used more efficiently and sustainably. The larger glasshouse standing at 15m tall and 11m in diameter, houses the botanicals usually found in the Mediterranean.
Bombay Sapphire Gin is distilled 3 times in a "carterhead" still, where the alcohol vapors pass through a mask/basket containing the 10 ingredients to get even more flavors and aromas.Bombay Sapphire's heritage begins in 1761 when Thomas Dakin purchased a site in Warrington, England, with the intention of distilling gin.
Bombay Sapphire and other Bombay gins are unusual in that they are distilled using the vapour infusion method: unlike most gins their botanicals are not steeped in spirit. The lyne arm from each still directs the vapour through an infusion chamber with 21 perforated copper baskets containing the botanicals.
